Shielding and lockdown
“ The gardens at Hollins Hall are beautiful and especially uplifting during the lockdown in the days of spring. We enjoy gardening and take great pleasure in looking after a few flower beds around our apartment, but we don’t have to mow the lawns- we leave that to the professionals“
“Even here in Hollins Hall, despite being protected from most of the effects of the pandemic by our
15 acres of private grounds, the Covid-19 virus has had an impact; our social events calendar has
had to be suspended indefinitely. Yet while we have not been able to use some facilities like the
gym and swimming pool for the duration, indeed Elaine has only been as far as our balcony in
twelve weeks, we are grateful that we have been here rather than in our previous Harrogate town
centre flat. While others have been restricted to their gardens we have the extensive professionally
maintained grounds here. Despite having to maintain separation from our neighbours we have still
had the benefit of a community of people sharing a common experience and the brief daily
conversations have been even more welcome than usual. Where other people have had to make
special provisions (for example drug collections) there is a support network here already in place
and working smoothly.
We have been fortunate in not needing care attendants, or been dependent on the restaurant staff,
but it has been reassuring to know that they are there and available if required, even when
circumstances have restricted contacts from outside. One final bonus, beyond price when concerns
are spreading about the psychological impact of isolation, all the staff here are like an extended
family and we have all kept smiling together.“
“ I have lived at Hollins Hall for 11 years. It is a delightful place and I have made some wonderful friends. The staff are all really lovely and many of them have been here longer than I have, which says a lot for the very pleasant atmosphere.
I live very independently and knowing there is help available 24hrs a day is a great comfort and makes me feel very safe.“
“My Mother was a resident of Hollins Hall and loved her flat and its surroundings. The Hollins Hall community gave her a great sense of security and as her Alzheimer’s progressed the loving care staff were able to take care of her every need. They helped her get dressed, take her medication and the superb kitchen kept her very well fed, the food being delivered to her flat every day. Due to us, her children being spread out round the country, it was great knowing that she had help always on hand. If we had any concerns the care staff were always keen to do whatever was needed and would often simply sit with her and have a cup of tea and a chat. It was a very sad day when she left to move into a Care Home nearer to me. My Mother misses her gorgeous flat with its views of the countryside and the superbly kept gardens.“
